Black Wheels

I drive a yellow, 1996 Chevy cavalier and it's not the BEST car, but it's really good on gas and it's paid off. I like to make it look spiffy, and now I'm thinkin about takin off the beat up hubcaps and replace them with some black wheels. How do u think that would look? And how much am I lookin' at?

it wold look good cuz black goes with any thing and it should not be to much

I want to paint my own wheels black but i need tips for it! Can anyone help me out. And would aircraft paint remover work, or is there something better to remove the chrome off my wheels.

Chrome plating is an electro plating process; the chrome is put on over a copper base coat. the plating can be removed by grit blasting or sand blasting,. the chrome is a very smooth surface and you will have paint adhesion problems, if you do not remove the chrome,
you are undertaking a task which should be done by a professional body shop. you could take the wheels to a shop and them have them grit or sand blasted , then prime and paint them yourself if you have the correct spray equipment. it you have chrome plated aluminum wheels you might want to have them anodized black as they would not chip or peel. this again is not a cheap process.

I have a VW beetle with the originally rims (wheels) and I want to color them black... can anyone give me the process of doing that? I heard sand paper is involved and I could go to Wal Mart to buy the paint.

Thanks also... do I need to take my wheels off or can I do them while their still attached to my car?

This all depends on how good of a job you want to do on your wheels. Let's start with the ideal paint job: Remove the wheels from your car, unmount the tires for the wheel and have the wheels sand blasted down to bare metal. This does an ideal job of preparing the metal for paint. Apply (spray) a coat of primer, then apply 1 - 3 coats of gloss black. Gloss makes the wheels easier to keep clean.

Okay, you don't want to go to that much trouble? The next best is to wire brush the wheels with the tires still mounted using a stainless steel wire brush like this:

The important thing is to remove any rust and to have a smooth surface when you are finished. Sandpaper will help.

Then, mask off the wheel from the tire with masking tape, and apply the primer and finish coats.

Still too much work? Clean the wheels with a strong wheel cleaner at your local spray car wash. Then sand and/or wire brush the wheels while they are on the car (the outside of the wheel only), mask, primer and paint.

To be sure not to overspray onto your car's finish, you probably want to mask off the fender with newspaper and masking tape.

ok heres the deal I recently bought a 2008 Toyota Tacoma Crew cab sport indgo ink. I am going to lift it 4 inches and put black wheels on it My question is what kinda of wheels should I get ? Links would help alot.

Due to the constant rolling of my plastic office chair wheels on my hard marble floor, black markings or plastic shedding are being being left on the marble floor.

How can i stop the problem, other than buying a chair mat?

Change the wheels. There are white nylon ones available.
