Can I use the touch-up spray paint for auto-body on auto wheels ?
Essen Motorshow promogirl

I have a Dupli-Color black touch-up spray paint can. I want my wheels to be painted from silver to black. And I don't want to spend another $10 on wheel paint. Will it stick, shine ? Can I do it myself ?
Can I paint the sanded wheels without applying primer ?

Yes, you can. You will need about two cans of primer, a can of black paint(two if you have larger wheels), and a can of protective clear coat. You do the calculation on how much this gonna cost you.

First, you have to roughen up the silver shiny surface with sandpaper then apply auto primer. Apply black paint after the primer has completely dried. You need to clear coat the wheels to make it more shine and the paint will stick longer.

history and explanation/illustration how spinners for auto wheels work?

I want to know how the various types of auto wheel spinners operate

A spinner is an automotive accessory, popular with the hip-hop community.

Spinners are wheel covers which spin independently of the wheel itself when the brakes are applied. This is achieved by using a roller bearing. Typically, the spinners are attached onto existing custom wheels, but there are a couple of exceptions; Dub Spinners and Omega Spinners are the most notable. Being an attachment to the car's rim, spinners operate by using a roller bearing to isolate the spinner from the wheel, allowing it to turn while the wheel is at rest. The spinner's own momentum helps it overcome what little friction is transmitted through the bearing. When the car is in motion, the small amount of friction transmitted through the bearing gets the spinner in motion.

The invention of the spinner is attributed to David Fowlkes Jr. Fowlkes graduated from Rufus King High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin before moving on to the Minneapolis College of Art and Design when he was 17. With a sketch and a prototype Fowlkes created the first spinner for a design project in 1990. The prototype then remained stored until 1998 when Fowlkes was working at Reebok and met his future business partners, Hank Seemore, and Ian Hardman. Together the three formed Davin Wheels with a $250,000 loan from the Rhode Island Economic Development Corp.

Spinners were then introduced to the public at the Los Angeles Auto Show. When Davin Wheels was unable to obtain a booth at the Auto Show, they were invited to join another vendor at the show, Latrell Sprewell's Sprewell Racing. For this reason spinners are sometimes also called sprewells.

Davin Wheels holds the only patent (U.S. Patent 6554370) for the spinning technology, called the continuous motion wheel.

Spinners were popularized by the 2003 Three 6 Mafia single "Ridin' Spinners," and other popular songs by Nelly, 50 Cent, Master P, DJ Quik, Redman, Baby and Big Tymers. Multiple music videos have featured the use of spinners. Spinners have also been features in many television shows including MTV's "Cribs," ESPN's "The Life," BET's "How I'm Living," and "NBA Inside Stuff." Spinners have been further popularized by many celebrities who use them including, Latrell Sprewell, Hulk Hogan, Shaquille O'Neal, Busta Rhymes, Donovan McNabb, and Allen Iverson.

The prestigious Rolls-Royce Phantom has spinners of a sort - the 'RR' logo in the center of the hub is mounted on a spinner with an offset weight designed to ensure that the logo is always the right way up when the car is parked.

In late 2004, special basketball shoes called Sprees, by DaDa Footware, featuring a minaturized spinner rim became available.

Professional wrestler John Cena also made his own customised versions of the WWE United States Championship and WWE Championship belts during his reigns, both of which featured spinners on the belt.

What are pros/cons of using nitrogen in auto wheels. Any long term studies, what about blowouts?
Untitled

Nitrogen maintains a more stable air pressure throughout the year whereas air pressure in tires without nitrogen increases in the hotter weather and decreases during the winter. So, the owner has to monitor the air pressure more if nitrogen is not used.

Costco fills up their tires with the stuff. I wouldn't pay for it personally.

World of Wheels Auto Show in MN question?

Can you bring a camera? I have been to auto shows that do not allow it. I went to the website; but cameras were not mentioned.

They used to have this car show in Green Bay. I always brought my camera.

This is the first year in a long time they didn't have this show in Green Bay. I'll miss it.

How do you free up stuck calipers on rear wheels of an auto?
Untitled

I notice a burning smell coming from the rear wheel or wheels after driving for about 10 miles. It doesn't happen all of the time.

depends on what type of caliper you have. what type of car is it? if it is an actuated caliper (a caliper which works not only the service brake but also the parking brake) then you need to make sure the problem is not with the parking brake cable or actuator mechanism. Do you use the parking brake all the time? sometimes? if the answer is sometimes you will need to check the parking brake mechanism. To identify an acutuated caliper you need to look at it and see if it has a coiled spring attatched to a lever on the inside of the wheel. if it is an actuated caliper then you want to make sure the actuater lever moves freely. if it seems to apply but not release you are close to your solution. check this by having a helper work the parking brake from inside the car and watch the actuator lever. if it moves and does not return the problem is parking brake related. look at them both. it matters. if it moves and does not return then the wheel will be locked up. if this is the case you need to remove the cable from the caliper and work the handle if the cable does not move freely ... viola! that is it. if the cable moves freely and the lever does not than replacement calipers are the fix. if the wheel locks when the brake engaged from the inside and then disengages when released on both sides the parking brake is not your concern. then your problem is likely hydraulic. you will then need to take the vehicle out and get it to lock up. then take off the wheels. open a bleeder screw on the caliper. if fluid squirts out the fluid pressure is not being released. you will then need to work backwards to find the restriction. you will have to make it lock up between checking each fitting. when it is locked up and you find the fitting that does NOT squirt fluid than you are on the back side of the restriction. if you get to the master cylinder fittings and fluid is still squirting then you will need to make it lock up and then remove the master cylinder without taking off any fluid lines. if the wheels free at that point then the problem is with the mechanical actuation of the master cylinder. some nissans have a little rubber plug on the pedal lever that gets brittle and breaks causing a wheel lock up condition. my guess is that you will find a rubber hose constricted inside. if the caliper has the coiled spring on it DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DISSASSEMBLE IT! This is a comnplicated mechanism that I as an operator of a brake and undercar shop only will attempt to perform limited repairs on. you could ruin an otherwise ok caliper by opening a can of worms u cannot close.

In reality I would suggest if you can to take the vehicle to a qualified brake technician and have the problem diagnosed and pay him/her for their time. sometimes the solution is simple sometimes complex. either way correct information is priceless as a misdiagnosis here will result in wasting of your time and money and possibly compromise your safety.

if you are opposed to that i recommend you just start with changing the intermediate brake hose on the rear (if only one rubber hose on rear) or both if there is two. bleed the system and retest it. hoses are cheap about 15 each. if it still locks up try the steps i told you. If that doesnt work or you get confused email me tsh_66@yahoo.com and I will try to help you.

good luck

The street-legal version debuted in 1964 in order to comply with GT-class homologation regulations, which require that a minimum number of production models be sold in the market. Both versions featured the sleek, fiberglass body (a first for Porsche at that time) joined to the stiff, steel chassis for extra rigidity. The 904’s mid-engine design was inherited from the mighty Porsche 718, or RSK, Porsche’s dominant race car.

Race-prepped, four-cylinder Porsche 904s weighed in at approximately 1,443 pounds (655 kg), and could easily achieve 0-60 in under six seconds, and a top speed of 160 MPH.
