Aluminum Wheels

Is it possible to paint over the spokes on an aluminum wheel? I'd like to paint the spokes black & keep the outer rim shiney.

powder coating is the way to go as paint will flake off unless you try painting them with POR-15 and then spray a clear coat over the paint.

I have high polished aluminum wheels that are in bad shape,may have been damaged by acid from wheel cleaners.Does anyone have any experience with cleaning them?If so what products do you recomend?Have you seen the aluminum deoxidizer from California Custom Products that uses acid to clean aluminum wheels?These are not factory clear coated wheels.

i recommend Mothers billet wheel polish. If they are in bad shape you will need to polish them a few times. Also to get the highest quality polish use a power ball polisher then seal them with a zoop sealer. Zoop is expensive but it protects it polish for a year so you don't have to repolish them every week

You can get some really cheap wheels on ebay. Tirerack.com is a pretty good place online. They can get you a good price on wheels and tires and ship them to you. You just have to bolt them on.

I need to get new tires and there is a make/model of my car with aluminum wheels and one without and I don't know the difference (yes, I'm a girl!)

Usually aluminum wheels do not have hubcaps.
If there is a cover over the wheel that comes off or peels back, then you don;t have aluminum wheels.

I have a set of painted aluminum wheels that have been sitting in a barn for about a year and a half, in plastic bags. They came mostly clean with soap and water, but they have some rough build up on them that I cant get off, any suggestions?

i dont know what kind of soap you used but i bet AJAX antibacterial or Go Jo hand cleaner and a little elbow greese would do the trick. but watch what kind of rag or sponge you use. the paint will come easier than u think.
