Can my spark plug wire touch the header tubes without cracking or burning up with header wrap installed?
sparkplug champ

I put heat shield around the wires that are near my headers but they are still so close to the header that im worried they will burn the spark plug wire. I want to wrap header wrap around the headers just in the areas where the wires are real close to the tubes, im just wondering will i repeatedly have problems? If i will i will have to reroute my plugs over the valve covers.

the wrap will help but I would reroute my wires to keep them as far away from the headers as possible. Why take the chance on ruining them?

I have a 97 mustang gt and the wire keeps popping off the spark plug while i am driving?
McEwen & Bivens

Every time i drive my car the spark plug wire keeps popping off and i cant figure out why? Its only two of them that do it consistantly but some times two more on the other side do it too.

take the bad wire off the plug and squeeze the metal end that fits over the end of the plug closed some with pliers so it will fit tighter onto the plug.

How to change spark plug wire on a 94 Taurus Station wagon?
Lotus Europa engine

Hi,

Can anyone tell me how to change the spark plug wires on my 94 Taurus wagon. The gas station wanted to charge us $500 to change them along with the distributor cap/rotor and spark plugs.

We found a video on how to do the others ...and its pretty straight forward. Please share any insight you may have.

Thanks

Take the old ones off one at a time. Match it to a new one and put the new one back on in it's place. DO NOT PULL THEM ALL OFF AT ONCE or you can easily mess up the firing order.

"Snap lock" terminals or OEM style connectors ensures that wires are tightly crimped to the connectors to exceed OEM standards, providing worry-free installation and re-installation
Stainless steel Mag winding delivers maximum voltage to the spark plug for a hotter, more powerful, and longer spark resulting in optimum engine performance while reducing the chance for misfire, and eliminating radio static
EPDM inner insulation stops power-robbing voltage leaks

Does Spark plug wire length significantly effect the voltage going to the spark plug?
Fazio's automotive 2

I bought universal MSD Spiral Core Street Fire spark plug wires the other day. Some of the wires are pretty long and i just wanted to see if the length would cause a loss in voltage? If the length does effect voltage should i cut the wires to make them shorter in length?

As long as your coil is capable of putting out the voltage needed, it won't be a problem. It will supply whatever voltage is necessary to get to ground. A longer wire will require more voltage, but not that much. The spark plug gap requires more than the longest plug wire. If you want to cut them shorter simply for appearance sake, that certainly can be done, but you have to be good at stripping wires. Just cut it a little longer than you want it, strip off about 1/2 inch of insulation on the end you're shortening, bend the filament over to the side so the terminal will clamp down on it, and spray the boot with some silicone spray to slip it on. (practice with your old ones first) New terminals are easier, but you can get by with re-using the old ones if you're careful taking them off.

How do i know which spark plug wires go to which place when changing my spark plug wire on my 99 chevy tahoe?
Fazio's automotive

My new spark plugs wires dont have numbers or anything, how could i possibly tell which one is which? and do different spark plug wires have different powers?, i would assume so, since they are different lengths.

You change ONE at a time and match up the length of the old with the new as you go. Remove one end of the wire and follow it to its destiniation, disconnect it, match it up with the new wire and install the new wire. Move on to the next one and repeat until they've all been changed.Do not remove them all from your engine at once. Change them one at a time so you dont mess up the firing order.

  • Spark Plug Wire came loose!! HELP HELP HELP!!!! | Nissan Quest ...

I bought 6 spark plugs since I wanted to replace the old ones, but when I pulled one of the large spark plug wire (it has 2 long tube wire since the spark plugs are very low the engine) on the backside of the engine, the inner metallic tubing came off (look like it has been crimped) very easily and was attached to the spark plug. I tried to put it back "in place" by making larger the diameter of that metallic tube that got stuck on the spark plug, so that when I tried to put back the wire with the boot together it wouldnt come loose!

After I did that, I started the engine and a noise started to sound, like a tapping of a pen on a table sort of. I dont know if I should replace the 7 plug wires with new ones, or try to "fix" that plug wire, because now everytime I try to accelerate, it does not accelerate as before, it feels that it has a lack of "power". I need some help since I dont want to buy new 60 dollars plug wires knowing that it can be fixed easily, hopefully! Oh, I forgot, I did replaced the spark plugs with new ones...but the problem of the tapping noise was still there...RIGHT WHERE THE PLUG WIRE CAME LOOSE!!

    YouRepair.com - » HowTo – Changing Spark Plug Wires

Maintaining your car is not always difficult or expensive but repairing problems once they happen can cause headaches and eat into your spending money. For this reason you should perform routine maintenance as your manufacturer suggests and while doing so you may want to change other worn parts that are easily accessible.

Many new vehicles do not use standard spark plugs anymore but if your car is more then a few years old it is important to replace these wires when you perform a tuneup.

How often should you change your spark plug wires? Every 60,000 miles is not out of the question and at that point you probably want to replace some other ignition parts including your Cap, Rotor, Spark Plugs and while you are at it you should inspect the other wear items on your car such as your Accessory / Fan Belts, Air and Fuel Filters.
