Spark Plug Wire Sets

Well they affect each other... replacing your spark plugs but leaving bad wires and coils there are going to wear on the spark plugs... Bad spark plugs ruin coils. It's best to have it done at the same time, besides it will save you money since they are already doing the work.

If they are replacing the spark plugs, it really doesn't take any extra time to do the wires, they are already doing most of that work. So you are really only paying for the additional parts. But if you make two visits, you are going to pay for both services seperately. So you could pay an hour for the plugs, plus a half hour for the wires... or just an hour to have them both done at the same time. (just an example, the labor times vary for different vehicles obviously)

My dad needs to change the spark plug wires in his car and is asking me to help me find it online. My question is - what is the difference between spark plug wire and ignition wire? is it the same? i found one a site saying spark plug wire set, then the same item (same part number) on a different site says ignition wire set.

Exactly the same thing. Ignition is the technical term for it. If the auto parts store has them in the computer your fine. just replace all of them at the same time. Not just the one.

can I use a spark plug wire set that is labeled for one car on another? they are both 4 cylinder cars.
is there any difference between sets other than the length and type of connectors(like resistance)?
so If I can get it to fit, is it good to use? or will it hurt mileage/power/etc

If the length is correct, it shouldn't matter much in theory.

However, the thickness of the insulation, type of conductor, and the terminals may all be different even though the length is the same. These things are important to proper operation of the engine so it's always best to use the set designed for the engine.

My car has been sitting for a while because it was running rough and had a loping idle. I'm finally getting around to working on it. One of my spark plug wires is sliced open. I had covered it with electrical tape. Should I go ahead and buy a whole new set??

Yes, absolutely. If one's frayed, you can bet that others will be close-if not already separating.
Spark plug wires aren't overly expensive, depending on the model of your vehicle you can find them in after-market places like AutoZone, NAPA etc. Or, unsurprisingly on the web.
