What does it mean when spark plugs have what appears to be rust on them, am I running lean? I have a stock 5.3L '05 Chevy that I have put a super powershot NOS wet kit on I have the recomended jets installed for 150hp shot and check my spark plugs regularly. I have tried many types of spark plugs and have now put in NGK V-power plugs set at the manufacturer gap, .44, If this is normal then I will leave alone. I run 93 octane gas and dont shoot the NOS that often. Any feedback will be appreciated, thanks.
Could this be MMT fouling? I hear it isn't something to worry about, but is this true.
MMT(Methycyclopentadienyl Maganese Tricarbonyl)
What looks like rust could well be glazing from excessive burn temperature. Usually caused by a lean condition, yes.
Can run it with no NOS with new plugs and check condition after 5k miles, prolly will look new. Sounds like bigger jets, or soon will be pistons. I'd shoot for slightly black plugs from using the juice.....safest way....
This is a short "How to" on trimming your spark plug wire ends. The ends of them sometimes lose their good connection with the spark ...
i have a kx 250 03 model using alot of plugs anybody know the life expectancy of a racing plug
I am assuming your a beginner????? if your fouling plugs alot.
Go to one HEAT RANGE HOTTER, instead of a BR 9 run a BR10
Always get NGK for a bike, I don't know why, but they last better, also you can get the iridium tip plugs they last a while.
MAKE SURE YOU ARE RUNNING WHAT THE MANUAL says FIRST, then tune one range hotter if they are fouling out.
Also you need to baseline your jetting to the manual settings, assuming your not in COLORADO.
A poorly sqeezed air filter could affect your plugs but not rally usual.
We race cross country, TCCRA.ORG and we get 4 and 5 races out of a plug. (100 miles a weekend)
Plug wear can have as much todo with WHERE you ride and your RIDING style but really if your alwys putting around, your fouling them from throttle position. One range hotter will keep the TIP burned off.

is there a way to tell if they arent giving as much power as they used to? how can you diagnose a worn spark plug wire?
you can test them with an ohm meter comparing them to service manual specs or you can spray them with water with the car running. many times you can see them spark, sometimes you have to run your hand across them to feel them spark. it's high voltage but low amperage so it wont electricute you, but it will sting you. generally plug wires need to be changed 60,000 miles at the latest.

I removed the old plug at end of year and noticed the threads in the engine's plug socket were worn badly and pieces of the thread were on the spark plug. Now the new plug does not turn tightly. Can this be repaired? The mower is 3 years old and otherwise in good shape.
Sparkplugs are available in the next larger thread size for Briggs engines. Call your local lawnmower shop. If you take'em the head, he'll tap it in about 10 minutes. Good Luck. =^ ) In the future, start the plug by hand.
Check Engine light came on so I stopped and had it checked. The code came back as a cylinder 3 misfire. When I pulled out the plug it has normal wear, no oil, but yet has a gas smell. I was thinking maybe spark plug wires, ignition coil, or something else. Do you know what it could be and how to test for problem. I do not want to replace everything if I do not need to!
Every cylinder will have a gas smell but an excessive one says an incomplete burn. Suspect your plug and or wire- be glad this is cheaper than an individual no gas problem- I would then suspect fuel injection which is more costly.

YouRepair.com - » HowTo – Changing Spark Plug Wires
Maintaining your car is not always difficult or expensive but repairing problems once they happen can cause headaches and eat into your spending money. For this reason you should perform routine maintenance as your manufacturer suggests and while doing so you may want to change other worn parts that are easily accessible.
Many new vehicles do not use standard spark plugs anymore but if your car is more then a few years old it is important to replace these wires when you perform a tuneup.
How often should you change your spark plug wires? Every 60,000 miles is not out of the question and at that point you probably want to replace some other ignition parts including your Cap, Rotor, Spark Plugs and while you are at it you should inspect the other wear items on your car such as your Accessory / Fan Belts, Air and Fuel Filters.
...Car advice re: 96 Camaro - V-Nation
My commute car 2003 Neon is getting old and has 113k miles However it is properly updated on maintenance and still runs great with no problems. Then I see this 96 Camaro with less than 11k miles, so I am thinking that I can sell my 6yr old neon for $3k and add $2k to get a car which might run another 75K miles (5yrs of my usage). Then I can also get that old boots that I have, grow long hair and pimp in that 90's car acting like Brett Michaels.
