Under what driving conditions would a cold spark plug be used?



you use cold plugs when your doing long trips,like interstate driving and hot plugs are for like town driving.

Is it bad to find oil when I took the spark plug cover off?

I have a 1993 Honda Accord. I went to take the rubber spark plug covers off to see the condition inside. Once I pulled it out of the shaft, it was dripping with oil. What specifically broke? I really don't think oil is supposed to be in there.


was the oil on the the spark plug end or just collected around under the shield....chances are over time oil may have been spilled and seeped into the spark plug shield....unless you engine has been smoking and you have noticed oil usage or leakage around the under carriage I wouldn't worry.

A spark plug wire broke, so I replaced all of the wires and the engine still misfires, why?

My 1993 Dodge Dakota V6 was running just fine until I decided to check the condition of the spark plugs. I pulled the wire out by the boot (as recommended) and the thing still broke! So I went to the auto parts store and bought a costly new set of wires and put them all in properly, making sure they clicked in.

When I start the truck and put it in reverse, it bumps up and down. The engine is certainly misfiring, but why? I replaced all the wires!

Only two things I can think of: 1.) Perhaps I put the wires back on not in correct order and now they're improperly crossed, or 2.) I damaged something while replacing the wires.

What should I do? If I take this to a mechanic who knows what I'll be charged. Is there maybe a diagram showing the correct wiring order of the spark plugs?

Yes! It was indeed incorrect firing order. Went to AutoZone's website, printed out the diagram, 1-2-3!

check your firing order there should be a label under your hood at the front that has information about your truck. It will list the firing order the type of spark plug to use and the gap to set it at. If you changed all the wires I would also change the plugs at the same time. Get some Autolite plugs great plugs and don't cost too much. stay away from Bosch there stuff sucks.

Its possible that a plug was damaged when the wires were replaced.

repeated spark plug failure on 1969 mercedes 280 se?

hello everybody.
one of my cars is a1969 w108 mercedes with a fuel injected L6 engine.
i keep on replacing spark plugs on it after a few minutes of idling...
i did replace the ignition coil (bosch blue) by another one(bosch red) from a parts car...
may this coil being defective by giving too much voltage,and may this condition lead to repeated spark plug failure(no more spark or completely wet with not even carbon deposit on the tip when taken off for a check)?
i took the wire from the coil to the distributor off(on both sides) to perform a compression test(ok on all 6 cyl.),and i was surprised to see a very strong spark arcing from the lead of the coil to one of the terminals on the side of it(and there was a rubber boot on it...)
it is the third set of plugs i am wasting and i just don't know what to do...

Is this a 6 volt system or a 12 volt system? I had a friend with a similar problem a few years ago. If memory serves me right, he had to order a special plug from NGK that was required for a 6 volt system. I think that might be a good starting point.

Mice chewed my spark plug wires!?

I live in the woods, and the mice did a number on my spark plug wires, according to a mechanic. I have to drive 1500 miles in August, and I can't quite afford new wires just yet. Am I at risk if I try to drive a long distance in hot weather with them in this condition? I've already driven several months and several thousand miles, but only commuting short hops in cool weather. Thanks for the help!


Just put some black tape around the bite marks. As long as it's still working it will be fine.

You can get black electrical tape at home deport for 50 cents.
