i have a 2004 silverado and it needs new tires but i know someone that wants to sell his stock rims with barley used tires on them from a 2004 tahoe. i know that the tire size on the silverado are 265 70r17 but dont know the tahoes. will puting these on the silverado affect the performance in anyway?

The Tahoe may be running a 245 tire, which is only 2cm narrower, and a hair shorter. It is no where near enough difference to require you to have the speedometer corrected; the difference will be ~1mph at 60mph.

The difference in performance because of tire size will be so small that you wont notice it. You will notice a difference in ride or handling because of a different brand tire or different tire tread.

The size difference WILL NOT have any effect on your antilock brake system. The only time that it would is when you run multiple sizes of tires at the same time (system sees different tires turning at different speeds). Since all 4 tires will be the same size, the computer knows no different (system sees all tires turning at same speed), and all operation will be normal.

For example: If a driver was to replace his 17x7.5 rims on his Lexus with 18x8 for all four wheels would there be an advantage?

advantage? not sure you will gain in one way and loose in the other
or gain the other way and loose in the opposite.
let me try to explain.
changing the height of rear tire changes the gear ratio between the motors revolutions per minute and the wheels revolutions per minute.

smaller tires will produce quicker spinnig in only the beginning but will spin less in the end
biger tires will spin slower in the beginning and spin more in the end.

in your mind put a wheelbarrrow tire on the driveway and put a car tire next to it, draw a chaulk line on each sidewall, now turn the smaller tire once around and stop it. now turn the car tire once around and stop it, which one goes further, the car tire because it is taller and more circumferance but it is easier to spin the smaller tire from a standstill because it is smaller.

your fuel mileage will change but so small it will be unnoticable. the pick up will be unnoticable

If i got bigger rims would it make my car faster or slower or anything?

Depends on the wheel size and application for use.

A car going from a 16" to a 19" at the same weight is a disadvantage. As mentioned before it puts more un-sprung weight on the rotational direction, thus slowing your overall speed.

Although same theory, but in this instance going to a lighter wheel, you can actually perform slightly better straight line wise, and if you also choose to widen your wheels it could possibly help in cornering. Cornering though is mainly reliant on you grade of tires, and suspension.

So you don't have to use the smallest wheels possible made to clear your brakes. Using the smallest wheel possible also suffocates the amount of air that goes over the brakes to cool them down. If you're wanting a true performance wheel, buy something forged either in two or three piece design and light wheel. They will outlast any alloy, or other material style wheel.

Thin sidewalls mentioned by another person can be good and bad. They allow more flex to handle cornering smoothly, but you take a chance of also overstepping its capabilities with too harsh of driving. Always research your tires before buying.
