17 Rims

Our 2004 Tiburon came with the fancy wheels with 17" rims... unfortunately, the tires are wearing down in less than a year. Is it possible to downsize the rims to 15" so we can get a more durable tire for it?

Yes, but the tires ran out because they are performance tires, not because of the size.

Just get All Season tires. They last much longer than performance tires.

I want to put 17" rims on my 99 honda and also some on my dad's 00 corvette? Do you recommend that size for both or 16" instead?

You don't say what model Honda you have, but 17's should not be a problem. But you must also make sure the rim you pick is the proper size for your car. You need to consider the width and the offset as well as the diameter when choosing a wheel. Next you need to make sure you choose the proper size tire. You want to have the tire diameter as close as possible to the original size. Of course you could do 16's as well. The difference between the two sizes is marginal, but it comes down to the compromise of slightly better handling with the 17" versus a bit more ride compliance with the 16".

The Corvette is a different story. The Vette has 17" in the front and 18" on the rear, and I don't think you can run 17's all around, let alone 16's. You'd want to keep the current staggered setup or run 18's all around.

I just went into a street racing shop and was looking at some 17" rims. The guy told me that because I have a manual I should get 16s because they're lighter and I'll keep more power. He also said that I'd feel every bump if I got 17s. Can anyone help me with further details?

hondas suck???... so thats why they were rated number 1 in reliability, toyota taking 2nd place, not to mention how fuel efficient hondas are. muscle cars are gas guzzlers, and with the fuel prices these days?.. its not a practical choice.

and for the topic about the rims? 16s wud be fine. i have 16s. i tried the 17s? with the suspension of that car being made for smaller rims increasing it wud lessen the play of ur suspension.. meaning the higher you go the bumpier the ride.

i got 17'' rims 225/55 tires from a mustang 2005,can they fit in a 2000 mustang v6?

yes but the wheel offset is different so they will look like crap to be honest.
the wheels will not meet with the fenders properly.

I'm looking to buy 17" rims, but i'm not sure if i would need to install a lift kit. I want to know if anybody has put 17" rims on a car with 14" rims w/o purchasing anything else.

Lift kit???? Most people who install 17-inch rims on Honda's slam them down lower by 2-3 inches!

You will need to ensure you purchase wheels of the correct offset and with the proper hub-center for Honda's or with a hub-centric ring. This shouldn't be hard as there are about a zillion Honda's out there with big wheels. Check out www.tirerack.com. They are real pros and carry wheel lines from reputable companies that have been in business for decades, not fly-by-night like so many wheel companies these days.

For tires you will need to order the size 205/40R17 with a load index of 80 or 84 (84 is much more common and is called an extra-load or "XL" tire) and any speed rating you prefer above H - example 205/40R17XL 84H or 205/40R17 84H RF. These 17-inch tires have a much lower load carrying capacity than the stock P185/60R14 82H tires so you will need to compensate by increasing the air pressure from 29 to 35 psi front and rear.

Always of course, test fit one wheel and tire at each corner of the car before putting them all on.
