I live in the DC area and I'm trying to figure out the pros and cons of living in the Virginia or Maryland suburbs. I heard a rumor that if I move to Maryland, my insurance company will jack up the rates. Does that sound right? Why would the rates be higher just because I cross the state line?
Your insurance company is the only one that will know that...just ask them and tell them why you are asking ...they will help you. It is really very easy they just need both zip codes..
And yes it is very possible for rates to vary from state to state depending on the accid ratio for the area you live in....the insurance fraud they have and if they have alot of uninsured drivers that area....plus whether it is "the city" or the "country" makes a difference in rates also...less accidents in the country cause roads are not as congested, etc.
I would say location and driving history are 2 of the major factors when it comes to insurance....
Come on to Florida...your rates will triple...promise.:)

I use to live in W.V. you get taxed for anything and everything, even if you don't know what it is for.
I've been paying about $1200 per year and I'm starting to wonder if that is high. Does anyone know what the average price a year might be?
Also, I'm a 26 year old female who has had 2 accidents (without fault) and 1 in state speeding ticket. Don't know if that matters.
It's hard to answer with such limited information.
Make sure your current company isn't charging you for
the "non fault" accidents. If they are on your record,
they don't show as no fault. You must get a letter stating that these weren't your fault, if they are on your record. Also,
the speeding ticket will cause your rates to be at an increased rate for 3 years then fall off. If you have full coverage (coverage to cover damage to your auto), that costs more. If your car is older, you don't need to carry collision coverage. Where you live in Virginia makes a difference too. Lots of factors. You can grab your declaration page, DL# for all in the household, and call around for quotes. It doesn't cost anything to do that.
I'm in Virginia for a little bit and possibly buying a car. I have a Michigan drivers license and insurance out of Michigan. Would I be able to use Michigan insurance on a virginia plated car until I go back to Michigan. I'm not in the military.
In Virginia, to purchase license plates or decals, you must certify that the vehicle is covered by the minimum insurance requirements or pay the uninsured motor vehicle fee. Your insurance carrier must be authorized to conduct business in Virginia. Virginia requires the following minimum coverage:
◦Bodily injury/death of one person: $25,000
◦Bodily injury/death of two or more persons: $50,000
◦Property damage: $20,000
If your insurance company is authorized to conduct business, and your policy meets the minimum coverage requirements, you may be able to register it in Virginia. Best to check with your insurance company and/or the Virginia DMV.
I was involved in a car accident yesterday that was by no means my fault. The other car lost control, hit one car and then that second car hit me on my back driver door. The crazy driver then caused a 12 car pile up on the interstate. I know I am wrong for not having car insurance (my last one was cancelled due to my financial state while I was in school) but I am just wondering what are some possibilities of what can happen? The police officers said we might not hear anything until next week.
The worst that could happen to you is that you could be cited for driving without insurance. Since you are not at fault you can file a claim with the offender's insurance company and hope that you get paid.
How to Save on Your Virginia Auto Insurance Quotes
Are you one of those people who lost their jobs or your income is reduced for some reason? If so, then you need to review your Virginia car insurance coverage. An excellent guiding point should be to answer how would coverage change affect you and your familys well being and health?
Lets talk about VA auto insurance quotes. Every car owner is mandated by the state to have minimum limit liability insurance, uninsured or underinsured motorist protection and no-fault insurance. A few other options include comprehensive, collision, rental reimbursement and towing.
If your car is on the older side, increase that deductible for collision and comprehensive and save some money. For those cars that are old, you might want to determine the value of the car and see if it is even worthwhile to pay for collision insurance at this point in your cars life.
