Hi, me and my partner just bought a car in Auckland. We are traveling around New Zealand for around 9 months and was wondering which is the best vehicle insurance we can get.
Good day!
When I arrived to New Zealand and bought my van in Christchurch, one of the banks offered me quite a good deal with the auto insurance. However, when I had an accident they refused to pay for the damage I caused to another car because I'm not a New Zealand resident. I was very disappointed they did not mention anything about it when i purchased the insurance.
I found out that non residents can only get a third party insurance and QBE is the only motor insurance offers it for travelers. I happily changed to this insurance as it will definitely pay for the expenses in case of a car accident. The cheapest place to get it is from Backpackers Car Market in Auckland. They also offer great Roadside Assistance deals with it. Check their page out, it will help!

I wondering if someone could answer a question for me - me and my husband have been with Traveler's Insurance (auto insurance) for about a year and a half now.
Today, I got a call from our insurance agent - saying that we owed $133 in late fees and additional fees. This didnt' make any sense because my husband has an automatic withdraw through his bank that he uses to pay the monthly insurance payments.
Supposedly, what had happened - our insurance rate went up by a couple of dollars. In addition to this, they charge a $6 service charge to send out a paper bill/take payments from your bank account. My husband and I didn't know about either of these two charges - and this supposedly is what created the extra fees/charges that we now face. (Apparently the charges added up over an *ENTIRE YEAR*!!...I mean, come on - wouldn't/couldn't somebody have caught this detail earlier and notified us a bit sooner, thus saving us from all of this heart-ache and grief?! LOL!)
My question is - can they do this? Can they request we pay $133 in late fees - even though we weren't notified about the change in rates and the $6 service charge? (And the fact that this went out for a *WHOLE YEAR* until someone *supposedly* caught the mistake and notified us?)
There are lots of sites where you can get a free insurance quote. http://www.goodinternetdeals.com/Auto-In surance.html It only takes about 5 minutes to do.
I got a quote from a travelers car insurance agent thats a good $75 less a month than what im paying now to progressive. The coverage isnt even bottom of the line either, its all the "recommended" selections. Anyone have any experience with them?
Low-cost car insurance does exist. But a word of caution if you're looking for car insurance at a low cost. Many companies quote a very low rate which does not change until after you have the policy. Or, you may be losing coverage from your existing Progressive policy. That might be a bad idea and may be very risky.
If you want some more information, I would check out...

I live in Colorado and recently I was rear-ended by a car whose driver doesn't have a valid car insurance. The guy was at fault and was arrested for DUI. I have an insurance with full coverage, including coverage for uninsured motorist (UM). Because I already have Collision coverage I don't think that I have the optional uninsured motorist property damage (UMPD) coverage. Now, Travelers (my insurance) wants me to pay for the deductible ($500). I don't think it's fair because I'm not at fault. Do you know if the insurance is right ? What are my options ? Thanks
gadjodroopy, I suggest you call a local auto insurance agent to help. Since I live in Michigan I can't suggest an agent in Colorado, but here is an online resource that can help you. http://www.multipleautoinsurancequotes.c om/Colorado-Car-Insurance-Quotes.html

Travel Insurance – Unusual Mishaps By Patrick Chong At Isnare.com ...
Most of us wouldn’t dream of setting off on an overseas holiday without purchasing travel insurance. For every horror story from someone who neglected (i.e. forgot, couldn’t afford or just couldn’t be bothered) to ensure they had the appropriate cover, there are a hundred others from relieved travellers who nod wisely and say “Travel insurance? Wouldn’t be without it. Did I ever tell you about the time .....?”
Just in case you aren’t lucky to have one of those helpful friends to recount some of their personal holiday travel insurance stories, we’ve compiled a list of a few of the more unusual ones.
Bag Overboard!
A man was on a three day trip aboard a small pleasure boat in Thailand. As they were on the return journey, everybody’s luggage was up on deck ready to disembark. Unexpectedly, the seas became extremely rough and the boat was in danger of capsizing. Some quick thinking by the local Thai captain and crew averted a disaster, but not before the entire boatload of luggage had slid overboard with one final terrifying lean! The gentleman in question had thousands of pounds of video equipment in his bag, as well as an engagement ring he planned to present to his girlfriend on the last night of their holiday. But while his bag went to a watery grave, his story had a happy ending. His travel insurance paid for everything including a new ring, and they lived happily ever after, with a great tale to tell! (Some of his new friends from the trip however, who hadn’t purchased holiday insurance, did not fare so well.)
The Green Baroness Blog: Green Travel- Part 2- Transportation
Though emissions from one car is nothing compared to the best airplane, they certainly add up. As you look at how you will get around at your destination, consider public-transit options versus the standard rental car. Public transportation is often cheaper and faster, it offers a great way to sightseee and gives you a "flavor" of the culture in the area, and is almost always earth-friendly. Example- Stockholm. Visitors often take the 20 minute Arlanda Express train from the main airport into center city. When full, the electric train emits just over a pound of carbon dioxide per round trip per person. Compared to hiring a car for the 54 mile round trip excursion, which would add 37 pounds of...
