Rental Car Insurance Coverage

I travel often but have never bought travel insurance. I always rent cars and buy the full insurance coverage from the rental. I don't own a car or any auto insurance. I am somewhat familar with non-owner insurance options and the claimed coverage from the credit card companies. But why buy two insurance coverage when one can pay for both?

Do you know of travel insurance coverage that includes rental car insurance?

You can't get Liability coverage. You have to get it from the rental car agency.

You can get a CDW if you live in the US or Canada. You have 2 choices:

1) You can get a trip cancellation plan that includes a CDW. Most plans exclude OR, NY and TX residents.You have to be taking a trip with fixed travel dates

2) You can get a stand alone CDW if you live in the US or Canada except Washington State.

I have to rent a car for 2 weeks for business. Supposely, the cost should be reimbursed to me by a company after the assingment is done. Not sure if I can truly trust that.

But anyway, if I don't get the insurance, it will be $500. But if I get insurance, it is $1200.

I am a safe driver and I will be in a rural place. I am trying to convince myself that I don't need it. But then again, I worry about what might happen if accidents occur.

The cost of rental car will be reimbursed by a company. But I am not sure if they are actully going to do that in timely manner and my credit card balance is high. I don't want to put extra money charged into my account.

My credit card company and auto insurance company (on my own car) told me that they do not have insurance coverage on rental cars.

What do you think?

Ask your company to send you an e-mail that you will be reimbursed. Secondly, if your credit cards do not cover insurance on rental cars, you need to find one that does. I use the American Express Blue card. They cover it all and then some.

But as far as wondering if you should or shouldn't get the insurance, get it ! Sure, it may be $1200, but how much will it cost God forbid the car gets stolen or wrecked ? I know that you stated that you're a safe driver, and I'm sure that you are. It's the other fools on the road we need to worry about.

Does anyone know in general which credit card program offers the best CDW/LDW waiver option for a 2 week USA car rental? I have no car thus no insurance myself, but I have all four credit cards, Visa, MasterCard, Discover and Amex.

Why not just add the liability insurance option with the car rental agency? Thats what I did. Basic liability is all you need in most states and if you read the fine print, if it's not your fault the rental agency already has you covered.

i want to rent a car for the week to go out of town. I am 23 so i need to have full coverage insurance. Can i use Rental car insurance that allows 35,000 loss and damage waiver substitute not having full coverage on my own car?

I never buy it but Yes, you can buy and use the rental cars insurance in lieu of your own. It is expensive but in certain circumstances it may be the wise thing to do.

Credit card companies require that you decline any coverage offered by car rental companies in order for the credit card company to cover you. By Irish law, car rental companies are required to provide (and charge) you for certain types of coverage. For example, you cannot decline Third Party Liability coverage when renting a car. Also, when an Irish rental company quotes you a price, the price must include collision and theft insurance. If you do not want these last two coverages, you must explicitly decline the coverage. These requirements are different than most other European countries.
