Yes - they are entitled to do so - you need not disclose convictions that are spent of course.

And by the way, I suspect that other car insurance companies will provide you with a declaration to confirm that you have no non-motor criminal convictions. Even if you don't I would have to regard a criminal conviction as a material fact that would have to be disclosed.

So tread warily - or better still see an insurance broker.

I took out car insurance with the RAC in October and I choose to pay in 2 installments of £300, paid the first there and then and the next install is due to be taken on the 14th of April 2009 can I cancel this insurance?

I have found it cheaper with DirectLine and I want to switch to them?

You don't HAVE to stay with your current insurer BUT - if you leave before the renewal date you MUST pay what they ask to bring your policy up to date at the time you cancel.

You can switch to Direct line if you wish - so long as your insurance runs concurrently !

i just recieved my renewal quote for my car insurance with the RAC. last year i was £220, now they want £385. how do they work that out. Anyway, i searched and found a quote with the post office for £178. its not due for renewal till 20th Feb. do i need to give any notive to rac that i want to cancel at the end of its term. what would be the right procedure for changing insurance company?

Yes, phone up RAC and tell them you want to cancel at the end of the term. Then phone up the post office (or where ever you go the other quote from) and ask them to start the insurance on the last day of the RAC on and that's is it.

Im 17 a VW enthusiast and just passed my driving test. I'm not saying im going to be any different to the statistics but im not a racer at all, lack of experience is still an issue though

Guys preimiems are double girls and yet i think its possible to get insurance ive heard of people who have just wonder from which company?

Im after insurance for a VW type 1 1300 beetle or a VW split screen camper for a 17 year old.


As anyone who has tried getting a quote for a 17 year old boy its going to be £800 for cheap 1L car, 900 for a 1.25L Fiesta or 1,400 for a 1.4L Zetec.
So im after insurance for less than £1000 has anyone manged it for a classic car? and where?
The RAC quoted 1,100 and then went to ask about it and then they refused
had several quote for a 1.6L beetle (due to age and slowness) of 1,400 but would like under a 1000
geico is USA i think.. :-(

my daughter got caught in floods yesterday and her car is knakered do car insurance companys pay for flood damage ,when she rang them they told her it sounded mechanical but RAC said it was flood damage which had ruined the engine

If you have COMPREHENSIVE coverage, it does cover water damage caused by flood on the standard auto policy.
