Wanting to buy a Car (uk) in group 1 insurance category whats's out there?

as a first car i've been told to get an old banger (something around 10years old no rust) low CC's (engine size) in group 1 insurance but i don't know what cars would be in group 1 (the lowest insurance cost) i've looked online for a list but not found anything substantial

what would you suggest

It should be 4-door, 4-cyls, not sporty. I would prefer Honda or Toyota... First time drivers usually have much more expensive car insurance, and it depends from car. You should compare insurance rates while choosing the car - for example here - autoinsurance.maclenet.com

Buying a car as a young driver 17 years old and in the UK?

Okay im soon taking my driving lessons so i can learn to drive to and from college as my mom recently had an accident and it has put her off driving so she cant take me no more.

Im looking for a cheap car, low running costs and lowest insurance as possible. I dont really earn much being on a minimum wage.

Please give me advice with links!!!!

Thank you

Best place to look would be auto trader or even your local newspaper.

You should be able to pick up a cheap car thats nothing special probably a 1.2 or 1.3L for about £500

Insurance may be a little high for your first time, but places like tesco or virgin do the best deals ive found.

At least if you buy a cheapo to start with if you do bang it etc its not a big worry. ( Or even if it breaks )

Hope this helps in any way.

Car Insurance UK?

I'm confused about something. I've been driving for about 7 months and have my own insurance which is fully comp and I pay £102 each month. Only now my boyfriend drives my car but only has just passed his test last month. I need to put him on my insurance as a 2nd driver. Only I'm sure that I have read and when I took out my own insurance that by putting a 2nd driver onto my insurance would lower my rate. However I have been doin online quotes and all of them are basically sayin I'll be paying around £300 MORE a month, which we cannot afford! I'm confused because I thought that with him being on it we'll be paying less or around the same amount! Can he take out his own insurance on my car or does he have to go on mine? Also does anyone know why it'll cost so much more for him to go on mine? Thank you :)

It is the driver who is insured to drive your car. An inexperienced / young driver will always cost more to insure.
If your bf carry on holding the lisence for three years, without claim, the premium will come down.

how much does it cost to run a car (in the uk)?

i know absolutely nothing about cars and neither of my parents drive. i'm a student and i want to learn to drive and maybe get a car, but how much would it all cost to run? can somebody give me the low-down on things like MOT, car insurance, petrol costs each time you fill up (and how long it lasts) for your average car - say a vw golf for example. like say for 30 minutes driving, how much petrol costs would that be? sorry if some of these questions seem a little basic but i need to know whether or not its worth learning to drive and running a car or just sticking to public transport.

thanks

My experiance, for a young guy:

£250 - 500 lessons to pass
£1000 for a cheap car, eg 10 year old golf
£2000 a year insurance at first
£1 petrol will get you about 7-8 miles.

Bout £4000 a year

Would a criminal damaged car not repaired by the insurance company without affecting the no claim discount?

My car was recently damaged by a drunk man after having some arguments with a lady inside a house. I had legally parked my car on a street near this house and left for some work. This man came out of the house after some time and damaged my car on the bonnet, driver side front and rear doors by throwing flower hanging baskets, kicking and punching. The man is now arrested by the police. The incident happened at approx 19:00 hours last week in Manchester, UK. I reached the scene 30 minutes later after finishing my work and the police described me the details of the incident who were also inspecting my car and waiting for me to record the statement. The police described the damage to my car as "Criminal Damage". They advised me to report to my insurance company to get it fixed.

I have comprehensive cover on this car and reported the matter to them. The insurance company unfortunately advised me to get it fixed from my pocket, if the repair cost is low. The insurance company also informed me that I would lose my policy excess and as well as the no claim discount if the claim is made through them. I was surprised to hear this especially when I am absolutely at no fault. Also my car was parked with no body inside when this incident occurred.

Would anyone throw some light on this and also advise me the right thing to do in such cases.

Thanks

nsdad

1. A claim on the policy means you lose the NCB
2. If the criminal is prosecuted and is not jailed then you can claim compensation at the court case and need to press the police to do this if they have not already asked you for a figure.
