I have an 06 Toyota Prius and I pay around $450 a month in car insurance. I live on Maui. Is this normal?
Sounds like you're being ripped off.
We need full coverage due to still paying off cars. Plus about how much to send 2 vehicles over?
An insurance agent that can write policies in HI would be able to answer the first question, and a shipping company the second. You might consider buying a car once you get there rather than shipping yours.
Also keep in mind that every drop of fuel in HI has to come in by tanker, which means the prices are approaching $4 a gallon. See http://www.hawaiigasprices.com/ for details, so you don't want anything that doesn't get good mileage.
also, i am going to be going school there and i am from hawaii..will i have to change my license plate and get a new car insurance or can i keep my hawaii insurance because im just a student.
You will need to change your license plate promptly. In most states you have 3 days to get this done or you can get a ticket for it. You may want to keep the same insurance company if possible. However, you must notify your insurance company of the new address. You should also change your drivers license as well.
I don't have stateside auto insurance.

Renting a car in Hawaii and don't want to spend a fortune in rental car insurance but want to be covered.
If you have a Gold or Platinum credit card you're probably covered, read your credit card agreement.
If you don't have a credit card that covers rental cars, you will need to get the collision damage waiver insurance from the rental company. Most now do not limit your liability if you don't take the coverage or have a credit card that covers you.
