Erie Car Insurance

Just got my license and on any other site i did a quote for with me on my dad's car insurance it was between $3-4K a year and on Erie it will be $1300.
Why?
Are they a good insurer?

There are different business car insurance companies, I have heard Erie insurance is one of the best ones, do you know of any other companies that might be better or similar? thanks

I dunno about best, and I dunno what you mean by "business". However, my buses are insured through Lincoln General and/or Lancer. Lancer is one of the best in commercial insurance, and they go after nuisance claims with a hammer (which is good, as it keeps your costs down.) and they also have various safety materials you can "borrow" for a safety seminar you can hold at your place. Lincoln General is not quite as proactive, but they do send an auditor / evaluator to check up on your risk-abatement which also helps to keep your costs down.

I have a 1999 White Chevy Lumina . . . . . . white female, age:17. Any help. My parents have insurance with Erie but im wondering if i can get cheaper insurance else where even if it means i get it by myself while my parents stay with Erie. its 361 at the moment and well we dont have the money for it.

The damage is estimated to 2,500 and the insurance company is Erie. I was just wondering is their usually a max amount where they let the check be written out to me?

If you own the car free and clear the check will be made out to you. If you are making payments, they will make the check out to you and the car repair shop you are having the repairs done, at. The only time you will get a check wrote out to just you is when they total out your vehicle, that you own.(that means the damages are more than the car is worth) Then that insurance company takes your car keys and totaled car when they give you the check. If it is still drivable you can buy back the car from the insurance company and get a check for less, the buy back amount. Sorry about the accident.

Recently my family was charged a substantial fee (~$3000) for not claiming me under their policy since the time I got my driver license even though I do not drive (college student).

The problem lies in the fact that our old insurance company was fine with it because I was not the car owner and that I am not driving. We figured that this was the case for all car insurance company.

So now I am home for the summer and we added my name to the policy and with that, a huge fee was placed upon us. Furthermore, they want to charge me even when I go back to school and will continue to do so.

We tried changing insurance company but they still want us to pay off that fee. I currently reside in Virginia and our insurance company is "Erie Insurance".

I am not sure about Va. but in most US states, Insurance companies are required to cover any licensed driver in the household. Even if they are not "listed" on the policy and even if they never intend to drive the insured vehicle. The theory is that since they have access to the car, they M A Y drive it and should be covered in the event of an accident. So....even though a driver is not listed, the insurance company has a right to charge for that coverage they are required to furnish. I believe that you merely received a bill for past coverage. BTW, coverage for that vehicle will extend to you while you are a full time student living away from home.
