Direct Car Insurance

I am purchasing a new car and for the first time car insurance. I've been shopping around online and Progressive Direct has the best rates for me. I also looked at getting Progressive through an insurance group in my area, which would cost $30 more per month for the same amount of coverage. Would it be worth the extra $30 per month to get the insurance through an insurance agency in my area?

Have you had any good or bad experiences with Progressive Direct car insurance?

I work for a law firm and deal with insurance companies constantly. Progressive is one of the best at handling claims, god forbid something did happen to you. As far as the difference in price, that $30 is only to pay that agent. If the coverage is the same, you're getting the same. If you want to email me with the details of your policy, please include you state, the coverage and the cost and i'll tell you if you're in good shape. also feel free to let me know about any tickets you've had in the past 3 years or if your record is clean.

Is it possible to change over our Irish Hibernian Direct car insurance policy to another car on a Saturday or do they only work monday to friday? If so what number do i ring?

Like i know in mortgages, u can buy a mortgage thru some banks directly and with other banks u have to go thru a mortgage broker, is it similar in insurance and if so who can i go thru directly? do the insurance retail companies mark up the insurance before they sell it to the general public? i live in florida. thanks

Most people prefer the advice and counsel of a good agent but if you feel that you are a knowledgeable auto insurance buyer here are some companies that write direct.

My car was set fire to earlier this month and I have put in a claim on my insurance (Swiftcover.com) which is being dealt with at the moment, what I would like to know is if my payment (due out the bank tomorrow) will be taken or will the policy of been stopped since the claim? Any ideas?

You probably have a contract for the full amount to be paid in instalments, this will mean you still pay.
Ask your insurance company.

on the contract it stated a fixed monthly amount to be paid now they have doubled that amount. has anyone else has problems with them? if so how was it delt with

No, I have never had any problem with them payment wise, they can't double a fixed monthly repayment without telling you. I'd ring them up and ask whats going on.

I currently have insurance with them but come November I'll be looking elsewhere, because I remember my old car broke down in April in the middle of rush hour traffic. I rang them and asked if they could help me get towed and they said it wasn't covered under my current insurance, I asked if they could bill me for it, as I have no idea about tow companies, its not like I carry the golden pages around in my car, and I was told NO!! I couldn't believe their attitude. So like I said, come November I'm going elsewhere.
