So I am planning to rent a car with a credit card (MasterCard or Visa) with a rental insurance policy benefit and I have full coverage with Geico ($1,000 deductible). My question is if I were to rent a car and decline the CDW or LDW offered by the rental car company and then get into an accident, would Geico pay everything above $1,000, and could I collect the deductible from the credit card policy?
autoinsurance.hotusa.org - try this one. I have their car insurance and, as I know, they can provide such a service.

I have credit cards which say they cover me for rental car insurance when I use the card to make the full payment for the rental. How does that work? Are there any catches? Does it make sense for me to get the additional insurance from the rental agency (like Avis)? If I am in an accident, will the Credit Card insurance cover everything or will it also be charged to my regular car insurance company?
Every card is different, and the card companies can change their insurance carriers without notice. Most of them give collision damage waiver only. If you have an accident, they will cover repairs over and above the rental company insurance, but they do not cover the cost of a replacement rental for you to drive. Very few of them cover liability. The most complete coverage may be offered by your insurance company, for a lower fee than the waivers offered by the rental companies. In Manitoba, for instance, we sell (to Manitobans) a rental car policy that gives $50 deductible for damage, loss of use coverage, and 5 million dollars liability coverage, and this package can be bought to cover a rented car anywhere in Canada or the US. So, before you rely on your credit card, read the wordings booklet, then talk to you auto insurance agent.
I was thinking of getting a credit card that offers rental car insurance. I was just wondering if anyone has used this service? Experiences good and bad?
Working for a UK rental company, I wouldn't recommend it, mainly as if you have to pay the insurance excess, you pay it off your credit card and claim it back from the card company - HOWEVER you have NO guarantee that the credit card company are going to cover it!! There are too many loopholes that they can use to get out of reimbursing you and you're left with several hundred dollars to pay off your account!
Most reputable hire companies offer you standard insurance and then an additional excess waiver so you're best sticking with that.
Hi, I'm totally new to car rentals (having just turned 21 a few months ago). I'm planning on getting a car from Dollar Car Rentals. I have auto insurance via AAA and I know that if I use a major credit card, there's some coverage there as well.
Am I required to purchase insurance through Dollar, or am I able to use my own? What about the credit card coverage?
Thanks!
This question is in regards to CAR RENTAL insurance, not typical everyday Auto insurance.
Thanks.
If you have an insured car that is parked while you use the rental, The coverage from your parked car will extend to the rental. Most credit cards also provide Collision Damage Waiver insurance if you use the card to pay for the rental. To be sure contact your credit card company and ask. If you have both your own policy and and credit card coverage, you do not need to buy the rental car company insurance
I've had a number of credit cards with the rental car coverage. Not a single one exculded Erie. Virtually all of them excluded Ulster, however, for what should be obvious reasons. The level of violence in Ulster has subsided somewhat from its historic levels. If this continues then maybe the credit card insurance companies will change their policies and start offering coverage there.

Q: Can I use my Debit Card or Bank Card to reserve a Hertz car?
A: At most Hertz locations, debit cards (sometimes called check cards) issued under a VISA or Mastercard logo which draw funds directly from the cardholder’s account may be used to qualify for rental. However, prepaid or stored value cards which have a VISA or Mastercard logo are not accepted to qualify for rental. Debit cards must have available funds for the estimated amount of the rental charges plus a reasonable amount to cover any incidental charges in order to secure the rental. Both debit cards and prepaid or stored value cards issued under a VISA or Mastercard logo may be used as a form of payment when you return the vehicle.

September 11, 2009 — Credit Card Companies Will Cover Automotive Insurance On Rental Cars If Charged to Their Card. Many individuals seem to have the very same question about their auto insurance when they go on vacation. Will my automotive insurance protect my rental car? You need to make sure you are protected and know how to answer the rental car rep when they ask you if you wish to purchase the rental car insurance.
There is only one way of making sure that you are protected under your basic auto insurance policy. You must take out your documents and look them over. It is always important to look over your insurance policy and then call your insurance provider to discuss it to make sure you have all the coverage that you need.
