For example, let's say that I am currently driving my uncle's car and it is insured under his name. I am not insured whatsoever under any insurance policy. Under Connecticut state law, am I allowed to drive his car even though it is not insured under my name, but it is insured under my uncle's name. Again, I am not insured at all. I think everyone's going to have different opinions about their car insurance. Insurance is a love hate kinda thing. Yes you need auto insurance in Connecticut. The best thing to do would be to try to lower your liability coverages. The minimums in Connecticut are $20,000 per person and $40,000 per accident for bodily injury liability and $10,000 for property damage liability.
This will lower your premiums but remember that if you are in an accident and the damages are over your liability coverage, then you are still on the hook for the balance. So by going with state minimums you could be on the hook for several thousand dollars! I would not recommended going with state minimums, but you proabbaly don't want to pay for full coverage, so somewhere in the middle may be good for you.

Connecticut Attorney General is getting after those practices in the car insurance industry where the insurance providers deny consumers a choice in car repair. While the probe is underway the car insurance providers dismissed AG's claim saying owners still have a choice in where they can repair their cars. They simply offer consumers "additional options." Here is what the CT Attorney general released about the probe.
