Car Rental Insurance

I am not a US citizen., but will be renting a car for 2 weeks from Payless. Will need advice as to what is the necessary car insurance to buy if :-

1. The accident is not due to my fault ?
2. If it is due to my fault.


I have travel insurance which covers me for medical insurance due to accident but not the other party , and also has a deductible for car rental.

I assume you are coming into the USA. If so you can decline cover with your car rental company, however, I would get it if you don't have it elsewhere.

You will be offered two types of insurance:
1 - CDW or collision damage waiver
2 - 3rd party liability

Your credit card company should provide collision damage waiver insurance which will cover your damage to your car only.

That leaves you with liability insurance, you should get this from your car rental company as it is usually not offered anywhere else.

I am renting an economy car for one day through enterprise. Any idea what the average cost of rental insurance they offer is? I'll be calling them later on. Just wondering ahead of time what I should expect to pay, on average. Thanks

It depends on the location. But on average, $9.50/day. Call your auto insurance agent and ask if it is worth it, as most insurance co's cover the rental car with your own limits and buying more insurance is a waste of your money.

So I am planning to rent a car with a credit card (MasterCard or Visa) with a rental insurance policy benefit and I have full coverage with Geico ($1,000 deductible). My question is if I were to rent a car and decline the CDW or LDW offered by the rental car company and then get into an accident, would Geico pay everything above $1,000, and could I collect the deductible from the credit card policy?

I have a car and have taken Auto insurance for it.
Now my question is if i take a rental car, then my auto insurance policy for my car covers it or i need to take separate insurance for the rental car? When i took the auto insurance policy, they have taken my car details and its present in the insurance card also.
If i need to take insurance for rental car, what type of insurance do i need to take excluding my auto insurance policy coverage that applies to all cars?
Also if i am driving someone else car, will my insurance cover if there is any accident i have made?

When you rent a car, you have to have full coverage on the care that you own (your personal vehicle) and then that will automatically carry over to the rental. If you do not have full coverage you can add it to your existing policy for the amount of time you'll be renting the car OR just buy the insurance from the rental place. And to answer your other question, no your policy will not cover somebody else's car just because you're driving it. Insurance covers vehicles, NOT people, even if you were in an at fault accident, your friend/relative's insurance would have to cover that loss. Try this site to find the best car insurance
