I know back in the 80s it was because men were in more car accidents, but nowadays, it's about the same, yet men pay more for their insurance than women do? At least that's the way it works in Canada.

Personally I do. For a start their buisiness is based around the idea that women are safer drivers even though what gender you are does not affect your driving, also all of the TV adverts for this insurance have sexist comments in them.
If it had been the other way round and these car insurances were exclusive to men there would have been protests and accusations of sexism but because typically women are the victims of sexism it has gone unnoticed.

Believe me, gender does make a difference to driving , as does age.

the insurance companies are not in the business for the good of their health, they are out to make a healthy profit out of all of us.

The reason that they can offer discounted insurance for us ladies is that we cost less, we actually have more accidents, but they tend to be minor and therefore cost less to settle. Youngsters have more and that's why it costs so much to insure if you are a young driver.

If the TV ads have sexist comments in them, then I would complain to the people who regulate the ads, I agree that this bit isn't fair, but you need to get your voice heard in the right places.

I mean inst that discrimination. Shoudnt every1 start w/ the same amt of trust then if do sumthing bad u get nailed with higher rates. But 2 start all men off w/ a higher rate is bad. Even if it is true that men in general get into more accidents than women, that deosnt mean all men r worse drivers than women. And thats sumthing else i dont get, i thoguht the sterotype was that women r not good drivers. Isnt this car insurance thing similar to saying oh well it looks like most terrorists r of a middle eastern background so lets give those ppl a hard time. Well, i think the same applied 2 car insurance 4 men, we shud be given the same rates until we do sumthing bad. So it may end up that men pay more but only AFTER they've dun sumthing wrong, not rite off the bat.

eg: mark wants and jane want car insurance, both r new drivers, living in the same city and are the same race and same age, mark has to pay $200 more than jane b/c he is a man, although he hasnt dun anything yet, although the company thinks he may do sumthing worse than jane

men are much more aggressive and take more risks. its not discrimination its just fact; if you take more risks youre more likely to get into and accident.
