Huyundai. She had a drink driving conviction & ban for 2 years, in 2005. Is this high quote normal?
That's amazing considering they had a conviction and a ban for drunk driving.
Most under 25s have to pay almost that as it is!

i heard someone had tesco insurance, comprehensive, caused an accident and was refused compensation as this accident was his fault. is his typical in uk ?
No this is not common! It's always a struggle having to deal with insurance companies though. Always make sure that your insurance includes legal cover (not alot extra but well worth it)! Bear in mind that alot of foreign drivers are about more than ever now, & that legal cover is a must! My girlfriend's car was written off a few years ago, when she was smashed into by an Italian lorry driver! It took months & months to resolve (I think someone in the insurance company had to learn to speak Italian ha ha) but all worked out in the end. Just make sure your car is road worthy & that it has a valid road tax certificate! Without either of these your insurance will be invalid. PS no modifications either!
i know that the cheapest one is tesco, i know there is confused.com etc, but the cheapest is not the best, i need reliable insurer
i read scary reviews on car insurers in uk(www.dooyoo.co.uk, www.ciao.co.uk) and am desperate e.g. tesco do not pay if u make a claim and accident was your fault and u have fully comprehensive - nonsense ?
Hi,
I know what you mean.
You gets what you payed for.
I don't suspect "fraudelent behaviour" though, otherwise the company would be put sharply out of business.
Howevel, the cheaper Insurers operate as such by bunging in loads of small print, stating that you are not covered for this that and 'tother.
I use the nodding dog, Churchill, and although not the cheapest,
they coughed up no problem on a small claim for a wing-ding.
Stick to the big names would be my advise, as, let's face it, you want prompt and proper response should it come to a claim.
That surely is what the insurance companies are for !
All the best with them, and try not to bump into anything.
Cheers,
Bob.
Are there any insurance companies that will allow me to drive other people's cars under my own insurance?
I thought most of them stated you have to be 24, but I rang my insurer this morning (Tesco) and they said the age is 25.
I have 6 years' no claims bonus, and I've had my licence for 7 years with no convictions, accidents or claims.
If you have comprehensive cover, you're entitled to drive other people's cars but only as third party.
I don't know which companies have which age boundaries, though
I have never heard of an insurance that covers you to drive other peoples cars. Normally the policy holder gets your name put onto their insurance.
the police stopped me today because i did not have car insurance but i insisted i did have insurance so they called the insurance company and the police was told the insurance expired on the 15/02/2009 now the thing is i am a new driver which means they will take my driving license!!!!!!! :'(
it is my own fault in the end but im really angry on my insurance company (Tesco) as i received a Notice letter on 16/01/09 from them saying:
''your motor insurance will be renewed 15/02/09, THIS IS AN AUTOMATIC RENEWAL - NO NEED TO DO ANYTHING''
and they did write it with capital letters anyway
should i go to court? no idea what to do they even took the care to the car pound my life is ruined :( help please your advice would be great
i pay the insurance company by direct debit...
tesco insurance is close now i have to wait for tomorrow to call them and
it is monthly paid the last payment was on 28 of January 2009
I don't know all the details of your insurance whether you pay monthly or annually and whether it definitely was supposed to renew automatically or not and if so whether the details they have on file for your payment method have expired e.g. new bank card with new expiry date/issue number etc?
You would need to check into all this and if you do have a document that says your insurance was going to automatically renew you would have to find out why it didn't.
Usually after 12 months you would have different terms for your insurance e.g. you may have an extra year n.c.b. to add on and may get a lower rate. You'd need to check into all this. There may have been something you needed to do in order for your insurance to renew.
Think people would need more info like this to offer any advice. My best advice would be to take a look at all the info from Tesco regarding your motor insurance and read carefully what it says. Also speak to a Solicitor specialising in road traffic laws and motoring offenses. You may also want to visit TPUC.
Great Britain is a Common Law jurisdiction and its my belief that essentially you haven't done anything unlawful provided that you have not infringed on the life, liberty, property, or rights of anyone else.
You should be wary of anything written in capital letters. You should also be wary of the word "register" and "registration". When you register your car what you're essentially doing is agreeing to transfer the ownership of your car to the government who will allow you to use it on the roads in exchange for the document they give you from the DVLA. You then have to play by their "rules" (not laws) and make sure that you pay insurance, insurance premium tax, RFL car tax, fuel tax tax (double tax) have a valid license etc etc.

Tesco grows insurance arm
Sep 12 2009 by Iain Laing , The Journal
TESCO is taking greater control of its insurance operations in a move it said would result in “keener prices” on car and household cover.
The supermarket chain will take on responsibility for the pricing, marketing and development of its motor and household insurance after forming a new partnership with Fortis.
Tesco said it was possible that as many as 1,500 jobs could be created due to growth in the operation, which is part of Tesco Personal Finance.
Insurance products are currently sold through Royal Bank of Scotland, but this has been under review after Tesco spent £950m on buying the bank out of a joint venture partnership last year. Tesco has been expanding its personal finance arm in a bid to exploit the weakness of high street banks. The company currently generates about £500m a year in premiums from sales of car, van and household insurance.

With increased competition between supermarkets to gain market share and improve profitability, the range of products on offer is getting ever diverse. Now, the big three chains, Tesco, Sainsbury's and Asda have caught on to the fact that their brand name can sell just about anything, including of all things, car insurance .
Car insurance is one of those very boring expensive products that you loathe having to pay for but have no choice if you want to drive a car on Britain's roads. Why therefore would supermarkets want to be associated with such a seemingly expensive pain in the pocket? Well it seems that the public think it's a great idea and are buying it from these stores in their thousands with the belief that it must cheap if the supermarkets are selling it. The strange thing is that the companies behind these deals, who are actually underwriting the risk, are the same companies who have been selling you car insurance for years.
