I'll be moving to Oakland California from Phoenix Arizona and I was wondering if there is such a thing as temporary auto insurance. My vehicle is not currently insured, but I can get a temporary registration from AZ DMV. That would allow me to drive my car for my move. I will be pulling a small utility trailer. I don't want to get a full 6 month insurance policy because as soon as I get to Oakland, I won't be driving the car at all. Are there any insurance companies that offer a really short policy (2 days, or maybe a week) ? I only need insurance for those two days, and so that I can get temporary registration from the DMV. Does anyone know if such a thing exists, and if so what company?
Sorry, but there's no such thing as temporary auto insurance. You will need to get the 6 month policy. However, you can cancel your insurance at any time. You will probably get about 3 months premium back if you pay for the entire term up front. If you only pay for 1 month and cancel after a week you'll probably owe them.

Last week I was pulled over by a CHP officer for not stopping at a stop sign at the end of an exit ramp onto a city street in Oakland. I am pretty sure I stopped, as is my passenger. The officer stated that he wasn't citing me for the stop sign but that he would cite me for not having proof of insurance and registration in my car (which wasn't there b/c my car had recently been broken into and I hadn't replaced the documents yet). He explained that it was a fix it ticket, I'd have to go to court and pay a small fee.
Then I get home and look more closely at the ticket (which I obviously should have done earlier) and he DID cite me for the stop sign, not for registration and insurance.
In following up the next day, he remembers the stop, but he remembers it the exact opposite from myself and my passenger. His sergeant stated that the best way to fight it would be to go w/ my passenger to court and contest the stop sign, and not bother with the other stuff.
Does anyone have any experience with this? Is this a good way to proceed? What is the likelihood I'll win this? I don't know if I should try and fight it, or if that will be a waste of time and I should just pay for it.
OK, I am positive I stopped. I was at the intersection by chance 2 nights ago and totally experienced deja vu. I know I stopped, because it's a one way street with 3-4 lines of on-coming traffic. I am positive I was not suicidal the night I was pulled over, and my passenger states that I stopped just as long as the car in front of me did.
I am not eligible to take traffic school, as I just did it for a different infraction that I totally admit to but I didn't realize was against the law.
So you go to court. The hearing officer does not care whether the officer said he wasn't going to cite you; he cares only whether your violated the law. The officer testifies you did not stop. You and your passenger testify testify that you both are "pretty sure" you did (leaving open "maybe" you did not). What do you think the outcome will be?
If it were me, I'd just sign up for traffic school. Your courtesy notice will tell you how to do that. In many counties you can take care of it all online.
Since I was super tired and didn't realize the red signal. It was 2:30 am Sat night at Oakland CA. The cop wrote I violate the CVC 21453(a). I want to know how much is the fine and what's the penalty? will my points being deducted and how would it affect my insurance? Much worse was I was driving my friend's car. Will that affect my friend? When I go to the court, should I contest the violation. Some people said if the cop didn't show up, the ticket will be dimissed? is it correct? Thank you very much
There WILL be points assessed. Your insurance rates MAY go up, depending on your policy and your driving record.
As far as contesting it in court, there always IS a possibilty that the officer won't show up, but, that's kind of like playing Russian Roulette, with FIVE loaded chamers and one empty one. Sure, there IS a chance you'll get the empty chamber, but, what if it isn't. If you are STILL found guilty, you will be assessed the maximum fine PLUS court costs. Plus the time you lose for the first appearance, where you make your plea, plus the time spent on the actual trial.
My best advice: Plead guilty. The judge will then give you an opportunity to explain your situation. You were tired. You have an other wise good driving record. You realize that it is no excuse but you will try very hard to be extra carful next time you drive so late at night. The judge may offer a lowered fine, and/or, the option of taking a driving class to keep the points of your record. Or, he may not. But these odds are MUCH better than counting on the officer NOT to show up in court.
I grew up in a really rough part of Oakland, and gang culture was my everyday life. I've seen my friend get shot right on front of me, had to run away from drive-bys multiple times, and my neighbor got his car blown up. with him in it.
I got out, I'm 19 now and a student at UC San Diego. But I was LUCKY.
An old boxing coach took me in and taught me to box for free, (I didn't have the money for it) as long as I helped clean the gym. this kept me off the streets and gave me a goal. I was never slanging anything, never did drugs because I waned to be in peak physical condition, and it kept me out of brawls because people knew I could mess them up.
But I was still in a gang. You had to be for your own protection. The fact that my crew would put a bullet in your head if you killed me was the insurance the kept me from GETTING killed in the first place.
Have you ever been involved in gang activity? Been a victim?
i'm curious on peoples opinions because I see many people are quick to judge the entire thing, without actually knowing anything about it
"My answers Suck" you certainly live up to your name.
I've never been involved in gang activity. But living in Southern California, I was close to becoming a fatal victim of gang violence once. Hopefully, I'll never encounter that again.

...Make or break year for these players - Oakland Raiders Forum ...
The title of this thread is "Make or break year for these players". Like it or not but this is NOT a make or break year for JaMarcus Russell . This is only his 2nd year as a starter. Yes, there will be concern if he has not shown improvement by the end of the year but his problems will be laid squarely at the feet of Hackett and Tollner. As for the OP and the players on the list. Huff was the one player that 2009 was a make or break year for. After 2 games he has done more than in his previous 3. If he continues to show this type of play for the rest of the season, Al will be wondering why he needed to draft Mitchell. Mind yiu if all 3 of Huff, Mitchell and Branch are playing...
