Car Insurance Mercury Quote

Answers

I have Mercury Car Insurance, what should I watch out for?

I recently opened up a policy with Mercury car insurance because they gave me the best quote. A month later my roomate was doing research and found a large amount of people giving bad reviews of Mercury car insurance. Since I don't know anyone who has Mercury car insurance I was hoping someone out there could give me some good feedback as to whether or not they are worth renewing in 5 months.

This is a company like Geico. Yes they save you money but when you need them to actually pay for coverage you will get hassled.

Never agree to limited tort- you limit your rights to recover for damages when you actually might need it.

Always keep you insured amounts high like 100,300 and 50 at the min. The higher the more protected you are ---thinking cheaper by using low limits can come back in your face.

Match the uninsured/under-insured to the same high amounts as above.

Ask what the difference in premium would be for a deductible of 100,250,500 and see what is best for you. Remember this is what you pay in case of a claim. You might be surprised how little it raises your premium with a lower deductible- maybe not.

Never,
Never, use the drive-thru claim service or the service when they come to your house etc.. They give you a check and good luck finding a body shop that will do the repairs for that amount. Look around for a reputable body shop in advance and have the car towed there if unable to drive) because they are in the business of repairing cars where as the insurance company business is to make money so they avoid paying what is necessary.

Add rental care option usually 30 -35 a day for a max for a month so you have transportation while vehicle is being repaired.

Travelers insurance is good coverage at a reasonable premium in my area. You could ask the body shop you find to be reputable to see which co. worked with them the best. But if they are a direct repair facility there answer might be tainted.
Direct repair is when a body shop agrees to work with the insurance co. (at a lower repair rate) in return for direct referral of their business.

which car insurance should i go with?

i've been with mercury insurance for many years now. but since i've never had to file a claim, i don't know how good they are. i got two lower quotes from esurance and response insurance. i don't know if i should switch. any experience feedback with your car insurance companies would be great.

First, I would say it depends on how much lower the quote was. Then, check ambest.com for the financial rating of the insurer (I wouldn't go to anyone less than an A- rating). Also, check their future outlook - it will be on the same page - to see if they are stable.
If you currently have an agent, I would tend to stay. If you go to a company without agents, they are only online or on the phone, you would have to do all the changes yourself, everytime you call you will get someone else (you have no idea where they are located, maybe somewhere in the US, maybe not) & sometimes when this happens, you could get different answers from different people due to training issues.
They really don't give advise about how much coverage you really should have, they will probably sell you just minimum limits up to $100,000/$300,000/$50,000 liability which really is inadequate these days, especially if you own a home. I haven't sold that limit since the first year of my first insurance job 19 yrs ago.

What is a good car insurance company?

Since I started driving 9 years ago I have had Liberty Mutual car insurance. I'm not happy with them right now. I was in an accident 6 months ago and they refused to fight it for me. In 9 years I have never had an accident before. I called AAA auto insurance and they gave me a quote. I also called Allstate and they also gave me a quote. These quotes are including the accident that I was in. Which company would you go with? I'm rulling out Mercury.
I'm located in California

New car insurance agent lied and misquoted...now im being charged double and cant get a refund?

I bought a new car a month ago, and needed to get the insurance on it during the final paperwork signing at the dealer. I called Mercury insurance, they asked me about my driving record and I told them. I have 1 speeding ticket, and one at fault accident. The accident was very minor.

The agent specifically told me the accident would not affect my quote, only the speeding ticket would. I was told the insurance was $160/mo and was faxed a document to sign to start the policy and withdraw the monthly amount from my checking acct. I was charged a $300 downpayment.

Fast forward 3 weeks. 2 days ago I checked my bank acct, and the ins. company withdrew over $300 again, which was double what I was expecting. I called the ins. agent, and he said the accident ended up resulting in a higher rate! So my monthly rate is not $160, it's over $300! I WAS NOT EVEN TOLD ABOUT THIS!!!

I told him I wanted to cancel and want a refund, minus the $160 I was quoted. I feel that is fair, I will pay for what I used at the rate I was expecting. He said no, I am only entitled to the rest of the month I paid for, on the difference of the later quote. That comes out to about $140 for the rest of this months coverage. I said that is B.S. I am not paying $460 for less than 2 months coverage.

I called him back, and he refused to let me speak to his supervisor. Then later, his secretary was lying and saying "hes not here" and "he stepped out".

Am I not entitled to a refund minus the ORIGINAL quote? I was lied to and uninformed about the rate change. Do I need to call Mercury themselves (instead of this agent guy) and report this? Call the state insurance commission? Small claims court?

Any advice is much appreciated. Thank you.

Ok.. here it is:
When you get a quote, its specifically state on the quote that:

"This is merely a proposal and is not a policy of insurance or offer to insure. Rates quoted reflect the rates in effect as of the date of this proposal and are subject to revision. The company reserves the right to accept, reject, or modify this proposal, after investigation, review of the application and review of all other underwriting information".

With that being said, he should have sent you this quote in writing, so that you were notified about your rights as a consumer. He apparently wasnt trained enough to know that an accident at fault will ALWAYS be chargeble unless its less than $750 payout. If its on your record, that means its chargeble.
Certain insurance companies have "accident forgivness" etc.. but not Mercury.
At this time, all you can do is cancel the policy and be refunded for the amount of time you havent used the policy but paid for.
There is not much you can do if youve signed paperwork already, except to take it to the department of insurance in your state and pursue it that way. Call the department and report his license#.

Has anyone had personal experience with Progressive Auto Insurance?

I have been a claims adjuster for 20 years and trust me Progressive has the best claim servicve of any insurance company.

In June of 2005 I was rear-ended by a progressive policyholder. I reported the claim to their home office and was told that a local adjuster would call me within 2 hrs to discuss the loss. They called me in approx 90 minutes. We agreed he could come and inspect the car the following morning. He called me from the parking lot and asked if I wanted to be there when he wrote the estimate, I declined as I written enough estimates over the years to know what he would include. When I went out for lunch there was a copy of the estimate, the check and info on how to get a rentasl car on the seat.
