When I was in NJ (13 yrs ago) I paid $700 for 6 months with a clean driving record, 29 yr old female (adult rate) & pleasure use. Rates have gone through the roof in NJ since then so your rate sounds about right to me. You are also a youthful driver with a ticket. If you think it is high, call around to other agents & get quotes. Start with an independent agent that represents a lot of companies. Some companies may offer a package credit if your mother puts her homeowners or renters coverage with the same company. Also, is it possible to drop collision coverage (if the car is paid off)? Another thought, if you only have one car & it is a new one, call your agent to see what it would be if you bought an older car (that doesn't need comprehensive & collision) & you were the primary driver of the older car. See if that helps you. It could be better due to multicar credit.
There is no way Belkin lives in NJ. The surcharges on the tickets alone would cost way more than his total premium....

Try New Jersey Manufacturers. They are a privately owned company and have the lowest prices of any. They also give dividends on your policy that might be applied to your next year's premium. They have pretty strict guidlines to qualify for insurance. But if you have a clean drivers record they are by far the least not cheap.

When i checked end of 2007, we compared Geico, USAA, and Allstate, and surprisingly Allstate came out best ($200 cheaper than the other two). Plus they give you cash back for no accidents and first-accident-forgiveness. however, i am going to check out NJM since others have mentioned here. Like a previous post, Allstate nor USAA would cover my home so i use Preferred Mutual for that. My friend just signed up with Allstate but received a royal runaround. They made so many mistakes that it wasn't even funny. Also, they never called back and then they made the mistake of sending him a cancellation notice by mistake. Financial Impact of Moving from New Jersey to Virginia
Though we have been in our new home in Virginia for only 5 days, I already noticed a few money related impacts the move had on us.
The move was mainly because of the relocation of my wife’s job at her employer’s request. But she didn’t get any adjustment of her salary. Of course, in this economic environment, an adjustment is probably too much to ask. We actually feel lucky that she still got to keep her job. That’s the most important thing for us right now. Besides, her employer offered $5,000 in moving assistance, which is more than enough to cover the moving cost. For me, the *new* job I got in VA pays a little more than i my old job did in NJ as I mentioned early. So overall, we made a little more now than before, but the spending increases as well.
