Antique Car Insurance

Im thinking of buying an antique car but im not even quite sure how the insurance and registration works.

I live in florida im not sure if it varies per state.

It works just like regular car insurance, but you're generally limited to driving to/from shows and parades and in them. If you want physical damage (comp/collision) coverage, you may need an appraisal.

Check Google for "antique auto insurance" to find some web sites, or ask some owners if you attend a show.

I called my bank USAA to get a rough quote for antique car insurance but the told since im 19 I can't get antique car insurance. I asked them if i could put it under my fathers name and they told me that whoevers name its under is the only one that can drive it.

Now i don't know if its all antique car insurance that requires you to be 25 or older or just USAA's.

I own a toyota Camry as my primary vechiale if i am buying a 1983 Dodge ram would that be considered an antique car? if it would is there anything special i would have to do with that car? and how much would i expect to pay per year on insurance? (Pennsylvannia)

In Pennsylvania an Antique vehicle is defined as a motor vehicle, but not a reproduction, manufactured more than 25 years prior to the current year, which has been maintained in or restored to a condition which is substantially in conformance with manufacturer specifications. So the vehicle would have to be in mint condition to qualify (no dents or rust). You have to submit an application which needs to be accompanied by four color photographs—front, rear and both sides. You also have to maintain regular registration on another motor vehicle for personal transportation. Insurance for these types of vehicles is very inexpensive, however there's quite a few restrictions (can't be used for commuting, etc)

I had an older mid-70's antique car that my father purchased brand new. He had that car since I was a child and I remember being in the car with him, going to the beach, etc.

Anyways, he died last November from Lou Gherig's disease. I inhereted the car. I took it to a garage in the spring to get it looked at and a repair shop did close to $3k worth of work on the car, including replacing all the fuel lines from the gas tank to the engine.

The last time I drove it, (two weeks after the repair work) the car actually stalled 200 yards from my house and caught fire. My wife and I are OK but it took minutes for the car to be completelyin flames.

The insurance will cover the cost of the car but that doesn't replace THAT car. I wanted THAT car, it was THAT car that I sat in with my dad going to the beach as a child. I had plans to keep it for years.

Do I have more recourse above the cost of the car? It's kind of like losing photo albums, they have intrinsic value.
I'm not trying to make a quick buck. My dad died six months ago and this was the best heirloom I had. The car is irreplaceable and burned to the ground because of poor repair work on the fuel lines. I am completely distraught over the loss of this car. Ten seconds before it lit on fire I was telling my wife how excited I was to be in the car and how I felt when I was driving the car I was with my dad. I just think its bullshit to collect the value of the car and that's it. I can't go out and buy the same car. It's irreplaceable. I just watched my dad take his last breath and now I just watched his prized car, which I was so excited to drive with my kids, burn to the ground in front of my eyes.

You cannot sue for suffering as you suffered no actualy physical discomfort, just an emotional experience.

I have an antique old car and I recently purchased a newer car as the everyday driver. When I purchased the newer car, I dropped the old car from the insurance and added the new one in it's place. Well, now the new car is down and I need something to drive. Is there anyway that an insurance company offers a temporary insurance on the old car again only until I get the new one fixed?

You can add the older one back onto your policy, and should consider keeping it on for a variety of reasons, one of which is all cars you are the registered owner of must carry liability insurance. Additionally, you may receive a multi-car discount.
