Alberta is in Canada

If I am not mistaken, it is 2 years, the same as Manitoba, but the problem with waiting is accounting for any damage that occurs after the initial accident, not to mention remembering correct dates and details if the claim did not involve a police report, such as a hail claim.

Do police in Calgary Alberta report car accidents to auto insurance companies?

Hi All - Got myself into some trouble with a fender bender. Unfortunately I rear ended someone. There was minor damage to the other driver's bumper and I agreed to pay for the damages out of my pocket. And he agreed not to tell my insurance company. We also ended up filing a police report. I'm a little worried the police will tell my insurance company and my rates will still go up, even if I pay for the damages myself.

Insurance company will find out because they are plugged into the data base. They probaly will raise your rates even though your accident didn't cost them a dime. The insurance companies could give lessons to Shylock when it comes to greed. Oh, and by the way, your points (if any) will come off your license in a couple of years. But the insurance company has a long memory and will continue to charge extra on premium.(one of the questions they probably asked when you first signed up was "Have you had any tickets in the last FIVE years")

Cheap auto insurance in Alberta?

I just got my first car and I am looking for auto insurance for the first time. Which companies offer the best rates? My car is 1988 mazda, how much does the insurance usually cost for my situation per month?

Hey,

I just searched for car insurance last month, and it seems that RBC auto insurance offers the best rates (they were $500 cheaper then the next best company!).

You also get a 5% discount if you get a online quote before you call and sign-up. My advise is to go with them.

In order to get a ballpark figure I would need to know your age, how long you have had your license, if you have taken driver's ed. etc. There are many factors that affect insurance.

Also if you are a student, there are many places like TD Meloche Monnex, and State Farm that offer discounts for students. The best bet is to get an online quote, then check out a couple local brokers. I believe that RBC auto insurance will be the cheapest however, so be sure to check them out!

Nightmare on wheels; Car drivers to be blamed for all bicycle ...

Basically, they are suggesting moving to a law like we already have in Canada. Right now in the UK you can cross the road anywhere on a bike, or as a pedestrian, and if somebody hits you, it is the cyclist / pedestrians fault (I believe that's the case anyway - those are the rules downunder and I am guessing UK is same) . There is no equivalent here, because it would be considered jay walking in Canada, and in Canada, you have to try to avoid in your car even if someone is jaywalking (i.e. rule here is auto is to blame - which is what UK is considering). Also, insurance rates are totally different. You are right the Brits are less likely to sue. But the article states the motorist will be blamed...

Auto Insurance In Alberta To Drop by 5% | beyond.ca Car Blog

After raising the basic auto insurance rate by 5% last year, the auto insurance industry will be rolling back that increase after the Auto Insurance Rate Board announced its decision today after holding public hearings last month. As with the increase last year, the new rates will take effect on November 1st. The AIRB only regulates the cost the basic insurance and not additional coverage such as collision.

“Today’s announcement shows how auto insurance reforms are working for Albertans,” Alf Savage, chairman of the Auto Insurance Rate Board, said in a statement.

“Since the introduction of the reforms in 2004, rates for compulsory auto insurance coverage have decreased by 18 per cent.”
