i am currently looking into aarp for my parents. they are currently 59 and self employed, entering retirement very soon. i am not too familar with aarp but have gotten an application in the mail as well as researched their website. i know the annual fee is $12.50. it would be very helpful if anyone who is a member give me some prices they are paying for health insurance, car insurance or any helpful information as to whether it is worth joining. thanks!

In my personal opinion AARP is a glorified discount program. A broker with multiple appointments can find you a better deal. Also in the car insurance arena, most carriers are going direct now and hard to beat their prices. Compare the quote with Geico or Progressive I would be surprised if they can compete.
Okay - my father is terminally ill. He has AARP The Hartford car insurance. I am on the policy as a driver. He wants to know, when he dies, will they just transfer the policy to me, or will they make me get my own policy (which I have never held) and raise my rates?
You are merely a second driver on his policy, it isn't your policy and you have no rights of ownership of the policy upon his death. When he dies, his policy will be void at that point and you will need to get your own policy to continue driving. I'd suggest you start looking now so there will be no gap in your coverage. Find an independent agent, give him all the information and let him find you something to cover you now. I'm assuming you are over the age of 18 and can get your own policy. If not, ask the agent about what to do in that case.
I'm a 16 year old guy getting license in 2 days and im staring to wonder which car insurance is the cheapest. I've been told aaa is the best, and my parents are on some aarp thing and it might be cheaper to get my own policy. SO any company names that you use would be great!
