To start off, I'm 17 years old, which would probably effect how insurance companies would treat me. I hit a pedestrian at a red light when I was trying to turn RIGHT onto a busy street. I actually hit him while I was coming to a stop, but I probably started braking to late, cause I ended up part of the way into the cross walk and I hit a kid (14 years old) on his bike.
The kid and the bike were perfectly fine, no injuries and no damage, he actually asked me if I was ok. There was a cop down the street who came over and took down all the info. He called me later and told me that he was making a case on what happened, but I wasn't getting ticketed and I wasn't in any trouble, and that it was up to me whether or not to tell my insurance.
My parents want me to decide what to do (to teach me about responsibility). According to the officer, my insurance will probably only go up a little if I do report it, and nothing will really happen if I don't. Does anyone have any advice? I have Century 21 car insurance, in case it matters.
I don't know what state you are in, so I'm just going to give some general guidelines.
No, there is no reason for you to tell your insurance unless you are going to make a claim to get paid from them. Otherwise they're on their own to find out about the incident. They don't call you every time better insurance rates are available, and you don't have to call them every time your driving statistics change. Especially in the case where no ticket was issued, no damage was done, and no one was injured--there is nothing to tell them.
If your car was damaged, then you might consider contacting the insurance to see about them paying to repair the car (but your rates may go up). If the child ends up contacting you later with an injury, then at that time you would probably want to contact your insurance company and let them settle the issue. Pretty much all insurance covers bodily harm to others, and if the kid comes back with any mention of an injury, you would want to let the professionals deal with it. (Not just for your sake--the kid and his family would deserve a prompt response so they don't have to worry about whether you're covered.)
I'm not sure I understand what's up with the police officer. It sounds like there is a chance you might get non-infraction charges filed against you. If that happens, get help from your parents. Learning responsibility for your own issues is good, but part of it is also knowing when to ask for help, and in that case you'd probably need a lawyer. Even in that case, though, you would not need to tell your insurance anything.
Good luck.

ive checked all state geico progressive state farm aig 21 century liberty mutual and esurance. r there any out there that ive missed?
im a student and on a very strict budget so i need the best deal possible. thanks!
I haven't got another name for you to check, but I thought I'd make the suggestion that you be sure to check into possible discounts.
If you get good grades, look into a good student discount. If you have taken a defensive driving course, you can get a discount for that. Are you trying to get your own policy or get added to your parents' policy. It is cheaper to get added to your parents policy and then just pay them the difference in the premium increase. They can then also take advantage of the multiple vehicle discount.
Anyway, hope those tips will help you find a cheaper rate. If you can apply any of those to your situation, you can go back and see if you can get a better price than the ones you've already gotten from the same companies.
You can also check with someone like netquote, who will go through and check several companies for you all at once.
Best of luck.
I 'had' AIG car insurance for the past 2+ years @ $145 per month, with the payment being automatically debited from my checking account. My last payment was for the amount of $168 with Century 21 as the payee. I called my broker and he said that Century 21 bought AIG and there's nothing that I or he can do about it. Is that true, can they do that?? And what's the best website to compare auto insurance? BTW, I live in So Cal... Thanks for the help.
I find that insurers are lowering their prices to new customers and raising them to existing customers.
It makes sense and it is legal, so long as they stay within the limits as set by the State Department.
The only way out is to use the net and compare around till you find someone better.
It is free to do so you might as well shop around, just don't go for the first one that offers you a price.
This is one I know, input once, get a number of quotes:

i recently got my license and the insurance company called my parents (21-century), and told them that the have to pay a ridiculous amount of money because I live in their house and I have a license. I don't even have a car. I thought u had to have a car to pay for car insurance. They guy who spoke to my mom told her it was a new law even if i don't have a car. By the way i live in california.Do i have to pay insurance just because i got a license? Do i have to forfeit my license in order to live with my parents without getting charged for insurance?
Your parents can sign an Exclusion. This means that if you get caught driving their vehicle, the insurance will be canceled and no claims for damages will be honored.
I will be getting my first vehicle, fairly soon. I would really like to get a truck with 4WD, but my parents say that insurance for a 4WD is alot. Is it? and if it is, how much is it?
Some info that may help :I am male, i will be driving my own car when im 16 in 5 months, and we have century 21.
Most likely yes. But only your insurance company can tell you the correct answer.
