GM, Ford, and Chrysler all have outdated business models, and I've read that half of the bailout money would be used to pay for retiree health benefits. How does it make you feel knowing that your tax dollars are going to pay for someone's benefits that may be better than your own?
I agree. They need to go bankrupt to restructure their bloated union contracts... and maybe go under for good.
All this bailout is doing is saving some votes come next election. Buying union votes.
CarLoansRightHere is a name to reckon in the American auto loan finance industry. Over the years we have helped thousands of people to realize ...
This wouldn't be a "bailout", like what's happening in the finance and mortgage industry. These would be "loans" that are to be repaid.
If the american auto industry goes under. This country will truly be in a depression. There are literally tens of thousands of jobs tied to the american auto industry.

If the Auto companies goes bankrupt they will be replaced with other auto company that have better products and ones that will need more workers for their strong and successful companies. Bailing out losers is not the smart thing to do.

I mean the real ones - Toyota, Honda and the like which know how to operate their businesses. Lets give them $25 billion in government loans to expand their factories in America and create a lot of high wage manufacturing jobs for American workers.
At least those loans will not be wasted and also will be repaid.
I'm a Libertarian and believe in personal responsibility. It is very sad that many people might lose their jobs but I do not think it is ok to give the gobblement the power to steal our money just to safe some rich persons company and some people's jobs. In the end they chose where they work and now they will have to look for a new job. Tough luck.
If they file for bankruptcy wouldnt that just mean they'd have to restructure their deals with the unions and their loans. If they restructured salaries with the unions that would be a good thing and therefore help the auto companies out.
Personally I think that they should be held accountable for their actions and file bankruptcy like the rest of us would have if we owned a business and it went under b/c of poor management or inability to read the "market demands".
I do NOT think that congress should bail them out, I think that would send the wrong message and just solidify in the minds of the American populous that the government could care less about the average American citizen who has finance problems, but let one of their large contributors go under and everyone comes to their aid.
Everyone thought that they were voting for "change", this isn't change, they are still taking care of themselves, (congress and the president), and letting those of us affected by bad business deals by lay offs and the like, just go by the wayside.
No wonder our economy is in such a mess. All you have to do is send EITHER party a lot of money, screw your business up and then they will bail you out with the "average" American tax payers dollars, who now can't afford their mortgage, to send their children to school, and are for the first time in their lives living paycheck to paycheck.
Well Done!

...The American way of debt: Turning a profit by preying on the poor ...
The increasingly desperate financial crisis facing large sections of the American working class has been writ large in statistics. In September, 15.1 million people were unemployed, with over 5.4 million out of work for six months or more. Counting discouraged and involuntary part-time workers, the unemployment figure in America is now 17 percent, while those still holding a job are down to an average of 33 hours a week, a record low. But a section of business has turned the growth of poverty into a gold mine. Standing behind the big banks are several layers of an increasingly complex and parasitic finance industry. In the middle of this food chain are the professional debt buyers and securitized...
